Does Carmelo Anthony need to leave the New York Knicks? Let’s think about this for a second. The Knicks have many young guys they could build a legit team with, including Willy Hernangomez and Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis is the unicorn. How can he not be a player with incredible potential? They also have Derrick Rose. Rose may not be the most reliable guy, but he has been playing at an extremely high rate these past few weeks. Anthony had an excellent game Wednesday night with 30 points, but if the Knicks ever want to be back in the talks as a contender, then they need to trade him.
Anyway, let’s not talk about Anthony and the crazy Knicks. Let’s talk about everyone’s favorite triple-double machine. Russell Westbrook achieved his 27th triple-double Wednesday night against the Knicks. He finished the night with 38 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists. Have you ever had doubt in Westbrook? Has it ever crept into your mind that Westbrook can’t succeed? Well, the Thunder were down by 12 after the first quarter, and Westbrook, with the help of Victor Oladipo, brought the Thunder back. And achieved a triple-double while doing so. If that doesn’t scream MVP, then I don’t know what does.
Westbrook had a lot of help from the Thunder lineup Wednesday night. Oladipo had 21 points off nine of 17 from the field. Jerami Grant ended the night with 13 points off three of three. Grant has been playing excellent basketball in the past few games, but that’s nothing compared to Alex Abrines’ five points. So maybe Abrines didn’t have the greatest of games, but can we all congratulate him on becoming the replacement for Joel Embiid in the Rising Stars Challenge? I think it’s fair to say that the World Team is going to take it all this year. Abrines will have 30 points. Just wait and see, it’ll happen. Westbrook is also going to win All-star MVP, so this weekend is going to be fun for Thunder fans.
The New York Knicks came into Oklahoma City Wednesday night in a game they thought they had in the bag. Little did they know, Westbrook wasn’t having that. The Thunder overcome the Knicks 116 – 105.
